Museums
IVAM (Valencia Institute of modern art)
The Valencia Institute of Modern Art is a part
of the Department of Culture and Education. They have activities
that include permanent collections, regular exhibitions, conferences
and workshops. The permanent exhibition includes sculptures by Julio
González and regular temporary exhibitions by some of today's
leading avant-garde representatives of the arts.
Museo de Bellas Artes
The Museum of Fine Arts display outstanding works
from the Valencian School: Joan de Joanes, Ribalta, Espillosa, Vicente
López, and Pinazo. Works of international artists such as
Pinturicchio, Velázquez's, Andrea del Sarto, Van Dyck, El
Greco, and Murillo are also displayed. The sculpture pavilion displays
some ancient artifacts and more modern art.
Fallero Museum
The museum displays the 'ninot' or the figures used in the Valencian
falla. Each year, during the festival the best ninot is chosen and
spared from being burned kept in this museum, together with posters,
photographs and other memorabilia from the fallas.
Cathedral Diocesan Museum
The museum within the cathedral houses paintings
by 15th century artists like Juan de Juanes, Rodrigo de Osona, Francisco
de Goya, Yáñez de la Almedina, Vicente Masip and Pedro
de Orrente. The cathedral also displays the several original sculptures
including the Gothic doorway of Los Apóstoles and the Processional
Monstrance.
