Travel Facts
Visas:
US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and Israeli citizens are among
those who may enter the Canary Islands as tourists without a visa
and stay up to 90 days. European Union passport holders can come
and go as they please. All other countries need a visa. You must
ensure all entry visas are correct and valid for the dates of your
stay. Apart from your passport, you should take your National Identity
Card if you are from a country where they are issued.
Clothing: Dress
is very casual most of the time and T-shirts, jeans and beach wear
are common. Clothing is cheap and can be purchased anywhere. For
mountain trips or in winter a jacket or sweater is recommended.
When to go:
With great climate throughout the year you can visit the Canary
islands anytime. However winter is the islands' busiest month with
crowded beaches and higher prices. A good time to visit is when
surfing championships are being held, the beaches and beautiful
ocean make the islands famous for it's surfing spots. Carnivals
in February and March brings several weeks of parades, fancy dress
and general partying across the islands. Las Palmas hosts several
important arts festivals, including the international festival of
music, film festivals, operas and ballets.
Accommodation:
Tenerife has plenty of accommodation options for the visitor
ranging from budget stays to luxury accommodations. Hotel rooms
are easily available but need to be booked in advance. Spanish Abroad,
can arrange for host family home stay, private apartments or flat
share with other students.
Food: Spanish
restaurants are all over the place, serving delicious seafood, non
vegetarian and vegetarian dishes. You can also find restaurants
serving international cuisines including French, Italian, Indian,
Chinese and American.
