Aquarium
The San Sebastian Aquarium was
inaugurated in 1928 for the purpose of research on marine science,
fishing and navigation. At the aquarium you will find activities
for all ages. There is a special place for children where they can
stroke the fish. The highlight of the aquarium is the oceanarium.
An underwater tunnel where you are completely surrounded by water
and feel that you are really submerged in the deep blue sea. It
gives you a 360° view of sharks, electric rays, Morays, Lion
Fish and hundreds of fish swimming about freely. Touch the giant
tortoises, see the skates only a few inches away and watch the sharks
in all their glory.
Monte Igueldo
Atop monte Igueldo is a spectacular
view of the ocean, harbor, beaches and beautiful countryside of
San Sebastian. A great place to visit anytime of the day or night.
Fresh air and beautiful countryside makes for an enjoyable hike
up. However there is also a perfectly preserved 1920s Monte Igueldo
funicular railway that ascends to the top for panoramic views of
the city. There is also an amusement park created in 1912 that offers
recreation for children and family including bumper cars, pony rides,
a roller coaster etc.
Ondarreta beach stands at the
foot of Mount Igeldo and has a more aristocratic feel to it because
of the villas and gardens that lead to the sand. The Igueldo Park
at the foot of the mountain spreads over 4 square miles offering
restaurants, walking paths, fishing and recreation for children.
Monte Urgull
Monte Urgull has some amazing
views with the bay on one side and the forest canopy on the other.
It is a great adventure to hike up the hill and spend time at the
top enjoying the fantastic views. At the top you will find the Castillo
de la Santa Cruz de la Mota which stands on the site of an earlier
fort. This site is dotted with a chapel and other monuments.
