Food
Salamanca has a vast selection
of restaurants from traditional to international from vegetarian
to seafood. From Mexican, Italian, Chinese to French and American.
Fast food is always available through the large global companies
as well as through the national Spanish chains.
Traditional cuisine consists
essentially of beef and game. Traditional dishes include chanfaina
salmantina, made with rice, giblet, lamb sweetbread and pieces of
chorizo. Los farinatos is a sausage which is fried and served with
eggs. And there is also a great variety of meat stews, each with
a character of its own, stewed calf's tail, stuffed chicken, stewed
tongue, and lamb stew.
The traditional Spanish Tapas
have gained international attention. The smaller bars outside the
old historic area have more authentic tapas. They vary from place
to place and hence it is advisable to try different places.
