How to get to Madrid and where Madrid is located

Click to enlarge this Map of SpainMadrid lies in the middle of Spain on a high plateau at about 1,200 feet above sea level. The region was chosen as the capital in 1561 by King Philip II to centralize power and unify the surrounding region.

Madrid's centralized location in Spain makes it easily accessible for all parts of the country. The Barajas ariport is about 8 miles from the city center. Almost all major international flights arrive at terminal one. Terminal two serves domestic flights and some international flights to Austrial, France, Germany and a few other european countries. The new terminal three runs a few flights to Barcelona.

Spain's national airline is Iberia. Ther are over 50 airlines other airlines that serve Barajas, including American Airlines, Air France, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and Thai Airways.
