Weekend Getaways
Seville
Seville is the capital of the region of Andalusia.
It is one of the most historical and commercially important cities
in Spain.
Seville is a busy yet relaxing and charming city,
with its small balconies overflowing with
geraniums, countless historic buildings, narrow streets,
small plazas, beautiful parks, and gardens is a great place to explore
and absorb the culture and language. Bullfights, street musicians
and Flamenco dances are daily celebrations. Sevilla combines the
wealth of history and culture with its modern business facilities
and shopping centers.
Cordoba
Córdoba is an extremely beautiful city
full of culture and relics of the moorish empire. It was once the
capital of the Al-Andalus region conquered by the muslims. Several
mosques from that era still exist including the 8th-century mosque
with painted columns and arches that is so magnificent that it was
preserved by the christian rulers that later took over. Cordoba's
old quarter is a maze of narrow streets with white buildings, balconies
and patios full of beautiful flowers and several historic buildings.
Granada
Granada is a large university town, with quaint
little homes, shops, bars, and restaurants. The architecture of
Granada has preserved the legacy of the muslim occupation in Spain.
There are plenty of activities like flamenco, music, art, and the
theater. It is definitely well worth a visit.
The area surrounding Granada also offers many interesting
options. The snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the inviting
and sunny beaches of the Costa del Sol are favorite destinations
for tourists.
Barcelona
Barcelona, on the foot of the Mount Montjuic,
is the capital of Catalonia. It is a Mediterranean
city, not only because of its location and pleasant climate but
also because of its history, tradition and culture. Great architectural
works by Antoni Gaudi, Lluís Domènech i Montaner
and other modernist Architects dominate the cityscape. La Rambla
is a great tree canopied parkway, rich in tradition and history
and is usually crowded with performers, artists and vendors. The
beaches of Barcelona attract a lot of visitors every year. Apart
from being very clean the beaches offer several facilities including
disabled access, beach lifeguards, sun beds, tents, umbrellas and
showers.
