Food in Granada
The Mediterranean cuisine of Andalucia is internationally
renowned. Coastal dishes include fish and seafood, ham and sausage
are more popular inland.
A typical breakfast would comprise of margarinel
on toast. Tomatoes, garlic and olive oil are other choices along
with coffee or a chocolate drink.
For lunch restaurants usually serve a "menú
del día", which is a good way to sample many different
types of food, for a good price. The serving will generally include
an appetizer, bread, a main dish, dessert and coffee or tea. Pork,
bacon, longanissa, and chorizo are also popular dishes.
Ventas
Ventas in Granada are rural eating places where
enterprising housewives provide meals for sale. These hearty home
cooked meals are of good value the prices as low as half of what
it would cost in a restaurant. The atmosphere among noisy spanish
families is charming and informal. The desserts are usually delicious
homemade caramel custard or homemade chocolate which is particularly
delicious with deep fried doughnut twists called churros. The ventas
also server great good house wine, generally a Valdepeñas
or Rioja which can be sampled. These ventas do vary from location
to location and its worth visiting more than one.
