Jaen
Jaen is a town just north of Granada, is rich in
history and culture and is a great place to go explore. Santa Catalina
is a small mountain upon which a majestic moorish castle sits. "El
Sagrario" a parish church is also atop the mountain. Santa
Catalina offers a fantastic view of the olive groves and city of
Jaen below. Some other fascinating sights of interest are the churches
of La Santa Capilla de San Andres, the Convent of Santo Domingo,
and the Church of La Magdalena with its charming courtyard.
Málaga
Málaga is the capital of the Malaga province
on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the second largest port in Spain
and is an important commercial region as well as a popular vacation
destination. Tourism is a major Industry along with sugar, wine
and cotton textiles. Malaga is a cosmopolitan city with excellent
sports facilities, numerous concerts, bullfights, theatre, and cinema.
There is truly something for everyone.
Sierra Nevada
The Veleta peak, in the vicinity of the Mulhacen
peak about 25 miles from Granada, are the highest peak in the Iberian
peninsula. The view from there covers the whole southern slope of
the sierra and the region of Las Alpujarras. In the winter skiing
and any snow sport is the main attraction followed by hiking, parasailing,
and jeep tours in the summer months. In the winter skiing, snow
boarding and other winter sports are the main tourist attraction
and in summer hiking, parasailing, and jeep tours are very popular.
Fuente Vaqueros
Fuente Vaqueros is a pretty village just outside
of Granada, great to explore and enjoy the fresh air. It is the
birthplace of the poet Frederico Garcia Lorca, where there is an
excellent museum in his memory.
