Barcelona's
cuisine is as varied as the city itself. The food and drink has
been influenced over the centuries by several cultures including
Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs. The spices, nifty sauces,
oils and meats are an indication of this.
Pork
is the most popular meat in Barcelona. Several of the traditional
recipes includes pork. Jamón serrano which is a leg of ham
cured and then hung out to dry a common sight in stores and restaurants.

restaurants in Barcelona serve 'menú del día', which
includes an appetizer, bread, a main dish, dessert, and coffee or
tea. This is an inexpensive way to sample the different dishes.

food found in and around Barcelona. Tortilla de patatas,
Caldereta de langosta, Lacon con grelos, Fabada, Bacalao al pil-pil,
Marmitako, Escalibada, Paella, Fideua, Cordero asado, Cocido madrileño,
Lentejas, Gazpacho manchego, Pescaito frito and Dorada a la sal
are some of the specialities.
