Where is Salamanca?

Map of SpainSalamanca is located just 112 miles (180 kilometers) Northwest of Madrid and 60 miles (100 kilometers) East of the Portuguese border in the autonomous region of Castilla y Leon. Originally the city of Salamanca was built on the East bank of the river Tormes but now its 200,000 (40,000 of which are students) inhabit both sides of the river. By bus from Madrid travel time is 2.5 hours.
