University of Guadalajara:
Student Services

Accommodations

The cost of the course includes accommodations with a host family or at the school’s Casa International residence. At both locations, students will be sharing a room with another student. If students prefer single room, we can arrange this option for an additional fee.

Homestays

Students who prefer the homestay option will have the chance to practice Spanish in a natural family setting. Because of their interest in your progress, you will find that staying with a host family is a non-threatening environment where you can practice and improve you Spanish.

The University works with 250 families some are located within walking distance to the school and others by public transportation. Students will be provided 3 meals per day. Most homes will host other students at the home.

Casa Internacional

Students who prefer greater independence may opt for our Guest House. This has 24 rooms, each with its own private bathroom. Rooms can be occupied by one student or shared by two.

The building is conveniently located in a respectable neighborhood, just 15 minutes from CEPE by bus. It is a short distance away from principal commercial and tourist spots in the city. Its services include housemaid cleaning each day, TV room, continental breakfast, water and electricity costs, and access to a kitchen for self-prepared meals.

Movie Club/ Book presentation/Conferences

The Movie Club program schedules throughout the year the best movies in the Spanish-speaking world. Included in the thematic cycles is the prestigious Guadalajara International Film Festival each Spring. Book presentations from renowned international authors and selected conferences of university curricular value are organized.

Multimedia language lab

CEPE is the only Spanish language school in Mexico to have a multimedia language lab. In this laboratory students work under the supervision of their professor who elaborates controlled-practice exercises according to the material presented in class.

In each practice, the professor presents new linguistic topics and promotes team work. This activity not only stimulates the reading comprehension skills and linguistic content, but also promotes oral interaction. This laboratory is also used to give special courses and seminars that require simultaneous translation, remote-location conferences, etc.

Foreign groups coordinators' office

The coordinator accompanying his/her students from their home institution will have a space at his/her disposal to work in talk with them on any topic or concern that may arise. Here the coordinator will find everything she or he has in her/his own office: desk, computer, telephone line, private cubicle and reception area.

Computer room

Students have access to computers and for a modest charge can use word processing facilities and have their own personal E-Mail account.

Immigration

For those foreigners that wish to study at CEPE there are two types of visas to enter Mexico: tourist or student. Please call the nearest Mexican consulate or embassy for more specific information. Once at CEPE, please visit the Student Services Coordinator to receive any assistance required.

Student ID Card

Once enrolled, students will receive an identification card that can be used for a number of purposes within the University, including access to libraries, discounts in cinemas, theaters, gyms and on long-distance bus rides.

Friendship program

This program can enable foreign students to get to know Mexican students so as to practice Spanish and participate in cultural exchange.

Foreign currency exchange

CEPE offers its services to change foreign currency or travelers' checks, on two days of the week, without charging a special commission.

Mail and fax

Students at the CEPE can receive and send mail through our mail service. Faxes can be received also for a minimal charge.
