Russia
is a fascinating country, full of history, culture, charm,
and incredible natural beauty. Unlike Western Europe, Russia
is essentially unkown to tourists due to past restrictions
on travel to the country. This has all changed and now Russia
offers the visitor a unique opportunity to see some incredible
sights.
Today
a trip to Russia typically includes a visit to St Petersburg
and Moscow. Each city offers a unique perspective on Russia.
St
Petersburg was founded by the Czar Peter "The Great"
in 1703. Peter decided Russia needed to "Westernize"
and brought in some of the best European architects to build
the city. Today St Petersburgis an astonishing city of outstanding
beauty. St. Petersburg is a world cultural treasure, an open-air
museum on a gigantic scale that seems to consist entirely
of palaces, churches and romantic canals. In
addition to the wide variety of cultural activites, St Petersburg
is home to some great bars, restaurants and shops.
Moscow
is another city that should be on your list of places to visit
in Russia. Home to 11 million people, Moscow is the largest
city in Europe. While the losers of social reform are easy
to spot in other areas of the country, in Moscow everybody
seems to be a winner, or an aspiring one at least. Moscow
is the New York of Russia, a city that never sleeps and where
everything is possible.
We
are confident that you will find Russia a fascinating place
to spend time and to learn Russian.
