Shanghai: The Town Of Wuzhen
One
of the more interesting places to visit in the area of Shanghai
is the historic town of Wuzhen. This town has a history dating back
more than 1,000 years. Many of the streets and structures have remained
the same over the years, and as you spend time in this town you
can't help but feel the history. Through the town runs a large canal
along with rivers and creeks that have some beautiful and historic
bridges spanning them.
For many centuries this town produced an astonishing
high number of successful candidates for the highest of the imperial
examinations. To say that that town was a center of learning during
imperial times would be an understatement.
Today some of the more interesting sites within
the town of Wuzhen include: the Xiuzhen Taoist Temple, an ancient
stage for performers, the majestic Wenchang Pavilion, the large
house of one of the members of the Imperial Academy, and the former
residence of Mao Dun, a legend of contemporary Chinese literature.
The old Chinese traditions are still very strong
in Wuzhen. Take a day and visit this amazing place. Our Chinese
language school in Shanghai can help you to set up a trip to Wuzhen.
