The Great Wall Of China
AZ Beijing

Overview
If there were to be just one thing symbolizing the ancient civilization of China, it would have to be the Great Wall. The first construction phase began between 476 - 221 BC during a time of Chinese history known as the Period of Warring States. Initially walls were built in areas of strategic importance by the various kingdoms to protect themselves. These walls however were not interconnected. During the reign of the first Emperor of the Qin dynasty a decision was made to connect the current walls and then to extend them.

Today it is estimated the the Great Wall of China extends roughly 4,000 miles in length. It winds through tall mountains, valleys, plains, forest and deserts. It is truly an amazing piece of work. It is said that at one time more than a million people were involved in the construction of the Great Wall of China.

Today some sections are in excellent condition while in other areas the wall has fallen into complete disrepair.

If you decide to come to China (Beijing) to study and learn Chinese at our Chinese language school, a trip to the Great Wall of China should be high on your list of sites to visit. The Chinese language school in Beijing can help you to arrange a trip to the section of the wall that is located north of Beijing.
