LSC: School Info

First Day of School at LSC
It is easy to travel to the LSC school by public transit. You should allow yourself plenty of time on your First day to arrive at school. We ask you to bring along your passport, LSC Letter of Acceptance, student authorization (visa).

First Day begins at 8:30a.m.

On First day, you will have an evaluation, registration, information session about school services and a guided walking tour of the school surroundings. The evaluation is comprised of a written and an oral test.

It takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete all the steps of registration on the first day. In the months of July through September, it may take longer.

Intensive students begin class at 2:30p.m. on First day.

Semi-Intensive students begin class at 9:00a.m. on the next day.

Levels and Advancement
Upon arrival at LSC, you are evaluated in both a written and oral form. Based on the evaluation results, you are placed in a level which best corresponds to your needs and abilities.

If you begin on a major start date, you complete a full level in the four-week session. If you begin on other start dates, you complete part of a level.

On the Friday prior to the next major start date, all students meet with their teacher for consultation on their progress. Continuing students advance to a higher level if they have obtained 70% on their overall performance in class. Performance is judged on use of language skills and on weekly test results.

Attendance Policy
You must attend class every day. Teachers take attendance at each class. Advancement to the next level is based, in part, upon language skills improvement in class. You must attend class regularly in order for the teachers to effectively judge your improvement. A minimum of 80% attendance is required to progress to the next level.

Student Resource Centre (SRC)
The Student Resource Centre is a multi-media facility. It contains computers, e-mail, internet, CD-Rom and audio materials. It is staffed by a Monitor who assists you with programs - however, the computer is your teacher. If you are taking Intensive studies, you can select the SRC as your choice for Focus Studies in Period C. You are welcome to use the SRC free of charge in Period D for independent study.

SRC Hours of Operation:
2:30 - 4:30 reserved for Intensive students
4:45 - 5:45 open to all students; free
