Activities & Excursions In Rio:
AZ Rio
A
vital part of any Portuguese immersion program relates to activities
outside of the classroom. Each week the Portuguese language school
in Rio de Janeiro offers an array of cultural activities and excursions.
The concept behind the activities is to allow the students to learn
about Rio de Janeiro, the local culture, and Brazil.
Each week the Portuguese language offers a lecture
covering some aspect of Brazil. Additionally each week there is
an exchange with local residents which will allow you to improve
your Portuguese language skills.
On a weekly basis the Portuguese language school
arranges excursions to some of the more interesting places in and
around Rio de Janeiro. There is no cost to the student other than
the cost of public transportation and any entrance fee.
Here are some examples of some of the more popular
trips in Rio de Janeiro offered by the Portuguese language school.
Christ the Redeemer
Statue
Probably one of the most famous monuments found anywhere in the
world. This statue sits high above Rio de Janeiro and offers spectacular
views of the city and surrounding area. You can see Copacabana,
Ipanema and other famous beach areas from this vantage point.
Botanical Gardens
A very popular stop in Rio de Janeiro are the Botanical Gardens.
Throughout the garden you will find examples of exotic plant life
from around Brazil. Besides viewing some amazing plant life you
will enjoy strolling through the tranquil grounds.
Sugar Loaf
Situated at the entrance to Guanabara Bay lies one of Rio de Janeiro's
most famous landmarks. Take a cable car to the top of the mountain
and enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding city. The view of the
bay is amazing.
Paquetá
An interesting island located in the heart of Guanabara Bay. It
takes about an hour by ferry to get to this quaint little island.
You will enjoy the ferry ride, the views of the bay, and then once
you get to the island you can relax on some amazing beaches.
