Culture In Austria
Austria is a country full of interesting cultural
centers. Some of the more prominent ones include the Schönbrunn,
historic Vienna, Salzburg, and Graz. Heading outside the cities
one can enjoy the incredible beauty of Lake Neusiedl, the Wachau
Valley, and the mountain vistas of the Hallstatt, Dachstein, Salzhammergut
regions.
Traveling through Upper Austria the traveler has
the chance to experience a variety of cultural traditions dating
back centuries. If you are interested in museums, the country is
home to well over 250 excellent choices.
Austria is dotted with an incredible number of
architectural wonders. The buildings range from monasteries to churches,
palaces to castles, to quaint old buildings. Even the more modern
buildings are architectural interesting and inspiring. It is worth
noting that the despite the small size of the country, the influence
of their architecture has touched many other countries.
Of recent interest are the many monasteries dotting
the country. The impact of these institutions over the centuries
cannot be understated. Today many of these monasteries are opening
their doors to the general public. In Austria if you have the chance
stop by to visit a few, it will be an interesting experience.
When people think of Austria many envision a castle
overlooking the mighty Danube. In one respect that is an accurate
impression. It is not hard to come across one of these relics of
the past as you travel through the countryside. Interestingly one
of the provinces of Austria, Burgenland actually means "land
of the castles".
A point of pride for Austria is Graz. In 2003 this
city was designated the "Cultural Capital of Europe".
A visit to the city and you will see why.
Wherever you may travel in Austria you will find
interesting traditions, beautiful countryside, and some exquisite
buildings.
