Climate In Austria
Austria lies in the Central European transitional
climatic zone. In much of Austria the prevailing winds are westerly
and northwesterly. In western Austria temperature variations between
day and night and between summer and winter are less pronounced
than in the East. Summer in Austria is for having fun. Temperatures
tend to stay between 20 and 25 degrees in most places. The weather
is great to experience the beautiful landscape on foot, on a bicycle
or on horseback to hike across mountains and valleys, swim in lakes
and rivers. Austria receives an annual rainfall of about 28 inches
with the west getting a significantly more.
The east has a continental climate with comparatively
colder winters and hotter summers. The climate here is great for
grape production and other flora.
The alpine regions have high precipitation though
they escape much of the rainfall. Summers are short and moderate
making it ideal for hiking. Winters last much longer with plenty
of snowfall. By mid December the ski season really takes off and
mountains are covered in thick, powdery snow, ideal for all your
winter sports and activities. Spring is also a beautiful time to
visit with Alpine flowers spread thickly across the Alps.
