ENFOREX: Program Overview
SALAMANCA COLEGIO CALASANZ
Ages 11- 18
Salamanca
was selected as a European Cultural Capital for the year 2002
and the entire city declared a Cultural Monument. This beautifully
maintained Medieval university town is one of the most youthful
cities in Spain. Site of one of the oldest universities in
Europe, the University of Salamanca founded in 1242,the city
is known for its social life which overflows into the many
cafés and sidewalk restaurants which line the city.
One of the favorite cities for international students who
want to learn Spanish, the city is very accessible on foot.
Known as the “Golden City” for the distinctive
sandstone from which the many palacios, the Cathedral and
the numerous churches are made, the city is often compared
to Pádua, in Italy and Oxford in the UK.
Located
in the old walled part of the city´s center, the school
features the 19th century architecture of this provincial
capital of Castilla y Leon. Typically Salmantino in design,
the building forms a U- shape surrounding its own courtyard.
Composed of 5 floors made up of classrooms, a large conference
room, a video room, the accommodations areas, the dining room,
an infirmary and more. The classic cloister-patio, designed
to provide a view of the splendid architecture through the
galleries on each floor and an attached 15th century church
called Las Bernardas and considered one of the best examples
of Plateresque architecture in Salamanca and only accessible
by those who attend the center.
Situated
behind the church, the walled sports facilities include a
soccer field, basketball court, a handball court, a jailai
frontón, volleyball court, an in-line skating rink
and more. The students are transported to a nearby swim club
where they enjoy the facilities. Salamanca has warm summers,
just right for enjoying the swimming pool, the outdoor café
and sunbathing areas.
Salamanca Junior Program
A combination of Spanish
language courses and a full schedule of sports and leisure
activities makes this a real learning experience. All this
takes place in an international environment in which more
than 60% of the participants are Spanish students who go to
the summer camps to learn English. The remaining participants
being foreigners who come from 42 different countries creates
a perfect atmosphere for the development of languages and
exchange of cultures.
The content of the Junior
program has been developed and elaborated by professional
educators. The classes are taught by a team of ENFOREX teachers
that are part of the teaching staff at the main ENFOREX Spanish
Schools in Madrid, Salamanca, and Marbella.
The six floor historical
building for decades used to contain the convent of the Teresianas
Order. Today it has been restored and equipped with all modern
facilities keeping the Castilian atmosphere and offering students
18-23 classrooms, a student common area, reading room, library
and video library, and a big interior patio. Students will
be hosted with Spanish families located within walking distance
to the school. No public transportation is needed!
The students will receive
a total of 20 Spanish lessons per week divided into four lessons
per day from Monday to Friday. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes.
Might there be a trip/special activity planned during a weekday,
classes for that day will be given on the weekend. Students
are divided into classes according to their age and knowledge
of the language. An oral and written placement test is given
on the first day to determine the level of all students.
Please note that all language
lessons for foreigners are only available in Spanish. At the
end of the program and upon its successful completion, students
will be given a certificate and a progress report.
