Potsdam: Program Overview

Potsdam Summer School (ages 14-17)

Learn German with GLS in Potsdam, a city with 130,000 inhabitants just west of Berlin. Founded by the Prussian kings, it has a history covering more than 1000 years. Today, because of nearby Babelsberg film studios many German movie stars have their villas here.

The school & Albert Einstein

The School is located 5 km from the city center of Potsdam, at Lake Schwielowsee, one of the many lakes surrounding Berlin and Potsdam. Einstein loved this part of Potsdam (named Potsdam-Caputh) - Albert Einstein had his summerhouse right next to our Potsdam Summer School. Every day you’ll have 4 lessons of German, and together with your tutors you’ll live in the school’s residence. Your classmates will be from up to thirty different nations.

Accommodations

At GLS in Potsdam, you live in a the school's residence, which includes a bedroom with 2 beds where you will share the shower and restroom with a roommate. All your meals will be in the school’s cafeteria. Unless otherwise requested, you’ll be placed with a student of another nationality. The center of Potsdam is a 5-minute ride by "S-Bahn", with the station in front of the school. Potsdam is famous for it’s castles, palaces and parks, many of them part of the UNESCO´s World Heritage.

Transfers

Transportation from the Potsdam airport is included upon arrival and departure.

Activities and excursions

You have a choice of 2 activities per day as well as one excursions every week. This program allows for plenty of opportunity to socialize and make friends - just join our leisure program. Our guides will show you through Berlin and Potsdam: Babelsberg film studios, Berlin with Tacheles radical art center, Brandenburg Gate, New Reichstag - you’ll discover an exciting region full of history!

Potsdam Summer School

Location: in Potsdam-Caputh: 5 km from the city center of Potsdam, right next to Lake Schwielowseee.

Facilities: 7 spacious classrooms, lounge, cafeteria, with residence for students on site.

German course

20 lessons (45 minutes each lesson) a week with a max of 12 students per class on 4 levels: beginners, elementary, intermediate, advanced. International classes with students from up to 30 nations.

Accommodation

School Residence: 2 bedrooms with own shower and restroom, 3 meals a day (full board) in the castle's cafeteria.

Activities & Sports

  • 2 activities daily in international groups
  • 1 full-day and 1 half-day excursion to Berlin per week

Dates & Prices

In 2005 the Potsdam Summer School is open from July 3 to August 14. You can book either 2 or 3 weeks. Please note: Arrivals & departures are on Sundays.

Prices include:

  • Transfer from / to Potsdam airport on arrival and departure
  • 20 weekly German lessons, placement test, teaching materials, certificates
  • International accommodation in 2 bedded rooms with own shower and restroom, 3 meals a day (full board)

  • 24 hour supervision by tutors and teachers living with you in the castle
