Teenage Programs: Teaching Methods at ESL French language school in Les Diablerets, Switzerland

ESL: Methodology

SUPERVISION

For the younger students, ESL organizes closer supervision in collaboration with the hostfamily. Moreover, the emergency telephone number is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS IN CLASS-LEVELS

In order to help you to get the most out of the lessons, ESL will give you a thorough evaluation test as soon as you arrive. The school will then be able to place you in a group that’s perfectly adapted to your level of experience. Your progress is then carefully monitored, and ESL will suggest class changes if they feel that this would be beneficial.

TEACHERS

The teaching staff, most of which are university graduates, have all had ESL training. They adapt themselves to their classes and give the individual attention that might be necessary. During sports or cultural afternoons teachers accompany and coach the students. They encourage them to speak French and to use what has been studied.

TEACHING METHODS

The main goal at ESL is to awaken students' interest in learning a language. In fact, ESL feels that the more concerned their students are, the better they will learn. They achieve this, first of all, by creating a young and dynamic atmosphere in their lessons with topics that really motivate the students. Moreover parallel activities complement the study work wonderfully by familiarizing students with spontaneous use of what they learned in the classroom.

The ESL program is adapted to all levels and allows you to improve your grammatical skills and develop your communication skills alongside your understanding of written and spoken French. The principal strategy involves four important stages: discovery, improvement, revision and progression. The teaching staff regularly participates in training sessions organized in conjunction with the International House in Nice. Therefore the instructors keep up to date with all the advances in teaching methodologies, and thereby can offer you the very best in terms of language instruction.

ESL's varied programs meet the requirements of a profitable and pleasant language holiday. Each teacher devises a program appropriate to the level of his or her class using different recognized methods of learning French and various documents (newspaper articles, etc.). Educational audio-visual support and media information are also used as part of the comprehensive teaching program.
