Les Diablerets: Nearby Towns

Villeneuve

Located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva, Villeneuve is an ancient and picturesque town full of delights for the visitor. The Town Hall (formerly a hospital) is outstanding, with its square tower, noble appearance and splendid ribbed vaulting. The church of Saint-Paul, in the Grand-Rue, has beautiful coats of arms from the House of Savoy. The art gallery in the old town exhibits paintings, engravings, objects d' art and antiques in a medieval setting.

Combining a peaceful atmosphere with a special joie de vivre, Villeneuve is a stimulating place for a holiday. It's also a dream destination if you're a fishing fan. The town has comfortable and modestly priced hotel facilities and is well-known for its gastronomic specialties and fine wines. Visitors can enjoy a particularly varied range of entertainment options: theatres, concerts, shows, traditional fairs, exhibitions, dancing and much more.

Montreux

Montreux - Pearl of the Swiss Riviera - is nestled between majestic mountains and lovely Lake Geneva, in a setting of great natural beauty. Thanks to its privileged position, the lakeside resort has a mild, congenial climate and lush vegetation.

Surrounding summits can be reached by mountain railway, other destinations by stately steamship or by road. The many attractive excursion destinations include Chillon Castle, Gruyères, Lausanne, Berne, Gstaad, Zermatt and the Matterhorn.

The Montreux region is renowned for its festivals and open-air summer concerts, as well as its flower-decorated quayside, sun terraces, casino, discos, bars, bistros and boutiques. Cosy restaurants serve fresh fish from the lake accompanied by the famous local wine.

Vevey

evey is a charming tourist resort on the shores of Lake Geneva. Surrounded by vineyards and the foothills of the Alps, this delightful town is the starting point for numerous excursions, whether by train, boat or on foot. Enjoy the flowers on the fifteen kilometers lakeside trail or follow the marked trail guiding you to Ernest Hemingway's favorite haunts. Why not pick up a passport for ten museums along the Riviera, or take in a film or music festival? The town also has fascinating markets and an exciting summer activity program.

A new addition to the town's charms is the "Train des Vignes" which runs from Vevey to Chexbres-Puidoux, from where you can take a panoramic lift to the heights of Mont-Pèlerin. The train takes visitors through the unique vineyards and picturesque villages of the Lavaux region. Things to do and see are: wine-cellar visits, wine appreciation seminars, guided wine walking tours, mountain-biking, tennis and squash. The region also boasts a fascinating watch museum and top-quality cuisine and hotels. Let yourself be charmed by one of Switzerland's loveliest places!
