White Nights: AZ St. Petersburg
The period known as the "white
nights" in St. Petersburg begins in early June and ends in
mid-July. The nights are not literally white, but they are very
short. During these longest days of the year, sunrise and sunset
blend into a spectacle of colour that moves every visitor. Tens
of thousands of people gather on the banks of the Neva every evening
when the bridges are raised to let the cargo ships through to Russia's
internal waterways. The atmosphere simply has to be experienced.
After the long, dark winter months, the people can at last spend
the night outside - a night that has turned to day. The white nights
of St. Petersburg are unforgettable. This unique natural show is
the perfect setting for an ever-growing spectrum of world-class
events: theatre festivals, open-air concerts and other musical performances.
Cultural
Events
For the first half of July, the school has 12 items on its cultural
and social menu, among others the popular Russian Shampansky reception
(TGIF), the even more popular boat cruise on the rivers and canals
of St.Petersburg, theme excursions devoted to Dostoyevsky and the
Romanovs and finally a visit to a vodka museum, vodka-tasting included
of course. Some of the excursions are free, others must be paid
for. Holders of an ISIC card get reasonable discounts in various
places. The full program is published on our website.
