Moscow
Moscow is recognized as one of the great
cities in the world. The city is home to excellent museums,
old churches, massive boulevards, cold winters and moderate
summers. The city offers interesting attractions such as Red
Square, the Fine Arts Museum, the Kremlin and Gorky Park just
to name a few. Additionally this is a city that is enjoyable
to explore. You never now what you will find as you wind your
way through this vast city.
St Petersburg
St. Petersburg is known by many as Russia's
most European city. This should come as no surprise since
it was designed to be exactly that, a European style city.
It was founded by Peter the Great in the early 1700's and
is situated on the Gulf of Finland. Throughout the city are
lovely city squares, magnificent palaces and a network of
canals reminiscent of Venice. The center of the city is perfect
for exploration on foot. One of the main attractions of the
city is the Hermitage. This museum is considered one of the
finest museums in Europe. It is on par with th Louvre, the
Vatican Museums, and the El Prado in Madrid.
Novgorod
This city is situated in
the area of Lake Ilmen and the River Volkhov. The city is
famous for a mild climate and a good geographic location.
The area surrounding the city is beautiful and home to many
different historic monuments. Many of the monuments in the
area were constructed between the 9th through 17th centuries.
Additionally the area is attractive due to the many old cultural
traditions that are still carried on.
Trans-Siberian Railway
Probably one of the most
famous rail lines in the world. The Trans-Siberian Railway
starts in Moscow and terminates on the Pacific Coast of Russia.
The trip takes a full six days to complete. It is considered
by many as the most exotic rail journey in the world. When
the line was completed it was considered an engineering marvel.
Take the train to get a unique insight into Russia. The trip
will take you through fascinating areas of Russia. Additionally,
on the train you will meet both Russians and tourists.
The Volga
The Volga is Europe's longest
river. There are boat trips up and down the river that offer
the traveler some great scenic views, both historic and natural
beauty.
Sochi
This city is known as a
resort area and is situated in Southwestern Russia at Krasnodar
kray. The city hugs the Black Sea coast and lies at the foot
of the Caucasus Mountains. The city was establish in the late
1800's and by the early 1900's was already becoming known
as a resort area. This region is known for its natural beauty,
mineral hot springs, nice weather, and good beaches. One visit
to this region and you will know why it has been popular with
Russians for over 100 years!
