Guanajuato is famous for its traditional handicrafts, pottery,
candies and limestone carving.
Hidalgo Market resembles a Victorian
train station with a second floor balcony and sells authentic
leather, delicately sculptured wax, metal, plates, pots,
pitchers, textiles, & wood made in nearby towns.
High quality majolica pottery is manufactured
in the city of Guanajuato. Gorki Gonzalez' Pottery Workshop
In Pastita is one of Guanajuato's most famous present
day Talavera pottery's.
In Casa del Sol it is possible to purchase
jewelry in silver and gold, the traditional 'pajaritos'
jewelry and baroque silver work. Excellent export quality
leather goods can be found in León. Apart from
shoes you can find jackets, belts, portfolios, bags, wallets
and the latest in fashion. In San Miguel you can find
houses converted to exhibit handicrafts, furniture and
accessories as well as works by renowned national and
international artists. Here you can find mirrors, beds,
bed lamps, wool clothing, carved stone objects and blown
glass. Forty minutes from Guanajuato is Irapuato considered
the strawberry capital of the world. On the farmlands
around it strawberries are grown for the national market
and for export to the United States and Europe.

crafts. The prices are controlled and fair.
