Museums

Diego Rivera Museum was originally the house where the famed Diego Rivera was born and raised. It still has all the original furniture and is filled with and a comprehensive collection of his and brilliant artist Frida Kahlo's works. The museum presents temporary exhibitions of different works of the plastic arts. It also plays host to several cultural events.

The Museum of Natural History has an interesting collection of the region’s animals and plants on the grounds of the University of Guanajuato. The museum is named after Alfredo Dugés, a French scientist who did studies of the flora and fauna of the region.

Mummies were discovered in Guanajuato when work began to enlarge the city’s cemetery. It is said that the composition of the soil and atmosphere made the mummification possible. The Mummy Museum was built adjacent to municipal cemetery. More than l00 bodies recovered from the cemetary line the museum's walls in glass cases.

Valenciana Mine. One of the richest silver mines ever. In 1810 the San Jose shaft reached 527 m deep, the deepest on earth at the time. It is possible to take a tour of the mine.
San Ramon Mineshaft. Former ancillary shaft of Valenciana mine. Now a restaurant bar with a small mining museum on first floor.
Ex-Hacienda of San Gabriel de Barrera. Now a museum with an outstanding XVII Century art and furniture collection. Picture Gallery of La Compania Church.
