Excursions from Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen occupies a prime spot on the Yucatan Peninsula. The beach, Caribbean, natural and man made parks provide many different activities. The Mayan culture and ruins provide many archaeological sites and an indepth view of how the native people once lived in the area. The Spanish school provides different trips throughout the region based on student interest. If a particular excursion of interest to you is not offered during your stay, the school directors are more than happy to help you with travel and transportation details. The following excursions are those that are offered on a regular basis but not necessarily at all times.

Full day trips

Xel-ha / Tulum: This sites the center of the Mayan culture in this region as well as a nature park with ocean life in which snokeling is the most popular activity. The location is only a little over a half hour from the school.

Sian-ka´an: This local biosphere houses many species that are endangered as well as crocodiles. This site lies one hour from the school by shuttle.

Cancun: Known as the main beach resort city in the area, students will view the major sites of this well developed modern city. There is great shopping to be had as well as world-class restaurants and a lively night scene. Cancun is just under an hour from Playa del Carmen.

Xcaret: This ocean based amusement park has an amazing aviary, a show based on Mayan and Mexican culture as well as an oppertunity to swim with the dolphins. The park is just outsie the city of Playa del Carmen.

Coba: This trip provides a view of the Mayan jungle ruins of Mexico as well as the opportunity to snorkel in a Cenote among many in the area and considered by many to be the best.. This site lies one hour from the school.

Chichen-Itza and Merida: This overnight excursion includes the Chichen-Itza experience as well as a tour of the stunning colonial city of Merida. Students will tour the local museum and sample the local Yucatecan cuisine. This is also a great chance to buy some local had made crafts.
