Beaches
The State
of Oaxaca has a 342 mile coastline, along the Mexican Pacific and
the rugged terrain of the area divides the coastline into numerous
isolated bays. It offers a delightful, tropical climate with an
annual temperature of 82°F and warm sunny days. This make Oaxaca
attract tourists from all over the world. Some of the most attractive
beaches are Zicatela, famous for surfing,; Zipolite, a nude beach
and Escobilla, a natural habitat for turtles. Some of the other
beaches are described below.
Playa Tejoncito is located at
the western edge of Conejos Bay, This is a gently sloping beach
with fine white sand and calm waters good for swimming, snorkeling,
diving, and fishing.
Playa Santa Cruz beach is located
in Santa Cruz. It features calm waters, coral, sea shells, and lots
of fish life. A good place to snorkel or scuba, but beware of sea
urchins and moray eels.
Playa Punta Arena its about half
a mile long with strong waves, not recommended for inexperienced
swimmers
Playa La Entrega is the southernmost
of the Santa Cruz beaches and is good for swimming and diving. Wave
action varies from calm to moderate at different places along the
beach and is good for surfers.
Some of the other isolated beaches
include Playa Rincón Sabroso, Playa Yerbabuena, Playa Consuelo,
Playa Esperanza, Playa El Tejón, Playa La Mixteca, Playa
El Arrocito, Playa Tangolunda, Playa Chahue.
