Archaeological Sites: Huamelulpan
Description
The archaeological zone of Huamelupan is believed to be Mixteca.
Apparently, this village flourished between 400 AD until 800 AC.
This
archaeological site is formed by two groups of terraces, which were
designed to be on the side of a hill. The first group features platforms
that have sloped walls, a staircase, a spraying system and numbered
stone bas-relieved seats. The second group is formed by two platforms,
formed by rectangular structures and walls carved in stone and stucco.
Aside from this groups, there are some other tombstones and mounds,
not explored yet.
Location
San
Martín Huamelulpan: Is located 91 miles (146 kilometers)
West of theCity of Oaxaca via highway 131-D to Mexico City. When
you reach Nochixtlán, take the highway 190 detour. Follow
this road until you reach Yucudaa and then take the highway 125
left detour to Tlaxiaco. On the San Martín Huamelulpan intersection
turn left. Approximate travel time: [2:10].
