| La
Ticla is a small town in northern Michoacan. It is best
know for its beach at the Rio Ostula. The best way to reach
La Ticla is by road. Buses are available but its better
to rent a car as the beach is located about 4 or 5 kilometers
from the turn off the highway.
Rio Nexpa is at the southern most break
in Michoacan. This is a very popular destination for surfers
with many places to stay and relatively cheap food. This
area has over a 180 degree swell window and picks up all
South and North-West pacific ground swells as well as tropical
swells which are amplified by a deep ocean trench as they
approach the coast.
The rivermouth waves
are world class with lengths of about 150 to 300 meters.
The tides are powerful and can get upto 6-8 feet tall. Recommended
for experienced surfers. Rio Nexpa gets its largest swells
in the summer but surf can be expected year round. The climate
is tropical, with high air temperatures in the 80s during
the arid winter months and in the 90s during the wetter,
summer months.
