| Cuauhnahuac's superior
teaching methods form a unique system, approved by the Secretary
of Public Education. This system is based upon a grammatical
sequence of lessons that provides students with the necessary
skills to speak and understand Spanish in a reduced amount
of time. Students use the Método de Español
Cuauhnáhuac, a series of four textbooks written and
published by Cuauhnáhuac Esc. C.I.C.L.C., S.C
Classes begin every Monday throughout the year for students
at all levels, from the complete beginner to the advanced.
Courses run from one week to as many weeks as the student
wishes to study. Upon his/her arrival to the Institute, the
academic director assesses the student´s knowledge and
abilities and places each student in an appropriate class
with others at the same level. When no other students are
at the same lavel to share the class, students are placed
in individual classes at no additional charge. Weekend classes
can be arranged upon request.
Several universities give credit to their students studying
at Cuauhnáhuac: Ashland University, Carthage College,
New Mexico State University, Northeastern Illinois, University
of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, La Verne University, Williams College,
and others. If you would like to receive credit from your
university for studies at Cuauhnáhuac, we recommend
you present our brochures to your Spanish and/or Study Abroad
Department for their approval prior to your arrival. We can
provide transcripts of material studied upon request.
NORMAL INTENSIVE SPANISH LANGUAGE
PROGRAM
Most students participate in this program, which follows
an original grammatical sequence made up of 55 lessons, integrating
a four book series. It consists of six hours of class daily,
which break down as follows: 3 hours of Grammar and Language
Practice (There are no more than 4 students), 1 1/2 hours
of Guided Conversation, and 1 1/2 hours of Situational Spanish
for beginners or Cultural Conferences for advanced students.
The Situational Spanish is a series of classes designed to
introduce the vocabulary necessary for everyday situations
("Survival Spanish"). Conferences explore subjects
such as History, Art, Indian Cultures, Politics, Society,
Pre-Hispanic Mexico, etc. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, this
latter portion of the program is substituted with Workshops
in special language and cultural topics, such as Pronunciation,
Idiomatic Expressions, Mexican Songs and Latino Dancing.
SUPER-INTENSIVE SPANISH PROGRAM
This program is a private six hour course directed towards
the student's individual needs. It is designed for people
who need to learn as much Spanish as possible in a short period
of time, and is structured to meet the student's specific
needs regarding grammar, vocabulary, and culture. Upon arrival,
students can meet with the Director of the Spanish Department
to discuss the program most suited for their needs and interests.
BUSINESS PROGRAM
Since business opportunities in Latin America are expanding
so quickly, Cuauhnáhuac has developed a special Super-Intensive
Business Spanish Program, which consists of six hours of private
lessons daily. Grammar, terminology, and expressions related
to the person's particular line of work are studied, as well
as cultural and situational factors which are important when
doing business with Latin Americans. Cuauhnáhuac uses
a different sequence of grammatical lessons for the business
program than for the Normal Intensive Program providing an
accelerated course tailored to the special needs of the business
world.
INTENSIVE MEDICAL SPANISH PROGRAM
This program provides an introduction to the key aspects
of Medicine within the context of a Hispanic culture. Medical
Spanish terminology, intricacies of the Mexican Health Care
System, and fundamental cultural differences which surface
when treating Hispanics are covered in this course. It is
integrated with our Normal Intensive Program for three hours
daily of grammar instruction. The second block of the Normal
Program is directed toward medical studies. Students with
a minimum or intermediate level Spanish may arrange for volunteer
clinical work as part of their program.
INTENSIVE LAW PROGRAM
This is a program developed for law students and lawyers
interested in learning law terminology and the judicial system
within the Mexican republic. It presents students to the technical
vocabulary necessary in their field as well as to the intricacies
of the Mexican Legal System. Cuauhnáhuac has a special
topic sequence for this program, which can be taken completely
or by electing certain topics. The Law Program can also be
integrated with any part of combination of our Normal Intensive
Program. Again, students can discuss their special needs with
the Director of the Spanish Department to create the most
appropriate program.
LATINO PROGRAM
Cuauhnáhuac offers a Latino Program designed for students
who have been exposed to oral Spanish at home and have some
command of the language but who have little or no background
in the formal grammatical or written aspects. This program
emphasizes pronunciation, spelling and the correct use of
grammar rather than fluency in speaking.
PROGRAM FOR ADVANCED STUDENTS
Since Cuauhnáhuac receives many advanced students,
including Spanish teachers and professors from high schools,
colleges and universities, we have created this program to
accommodate them. The advanced program follows the same schedule
of the Normal Intensive Program, but covers some complicated
grammatical points and the advanced lectures are designed
to detect the weak points of the student. The linguistic workshops
include writing and wording in acceptable literary form, phonetics
and pronunciation, and precise and diversified vocabulary.
The advanced student can also take mini-courses in Latin American
literature, Latin-American studies and Mexican History. Due
to the flexibility of Cuauhnáhuac´s scheduling,
many students are able to personalize their courses by introducing
textbooks from their own universities into the syllabus.
SEMESTER PROGRAM
Cuauhnáhuac offers full semester programs, which include
Grammar and Conversation classes. Spanish directed toward
the student's major, and Mexican Literature and History. Cuauhnáhuac
can also assist in setting up internship programs in the medical,
legal, business and educational fields. Our semester program
may vary, depending on the requirements of the university.
PLEASE REMEMBER! CUAUHNAHUAC
IS VERY FLEXIBLE AND WILLING TO DESIGN A COURSE WHICH SATISFIES
YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS. |
