Italy: Activities

For the adrenalin buffs Italy offers a lifetime of outdoor activities that will quench your every desire, that is of course if you get away from the city shopping and dinning. During the summer the Italian Alps in particular in Nova Levante, one can find an endless array of summer activities in the cool mountain air of the northern Italy: hiking and climbing, swimming, golfing, tennis, bowling, mountain biking, fishing, hang gliding and archery. During the winter months Italy offers skiing, snow boarding, sledding, winter hikes, skating and cross-country skiing and much more. The Apennines Mountain ranges offers great hiking opportunities with well-marked trails for beginners to experienced trekkers. The Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo and the Sila Massif in Calabria are two examples of where you can spend the day exploring great trails. In Tuscany the Apuane Alps offer challenging yet well-marked trails surrounded by breath-taking views on the eastern mountain ranges of Sardinia such as the Gennargentu. This mountain range is bordered on one side by the Versilia Riviera coastline and the other the vast valley of Garfagnana. This valley is also a great place for visitors seeking to enjoy the outdoors on horseback, on foot and even by air. Hot air Ballooning can be an unforgettable way to experience Tuscany during the late spring to early autumn.

There are also a plenty of ski resorts in the Italian Alps and the Apennines, the two mountain ranges that overlook Italy. Some of the most notable resorts are the Cortina d'Ampezzo in Veneto; Madonna di Campiglio, San Martino di Castrozza and Canazei in Trentino; and Courmayeur in the Valle d'Aosta.

Italians love the beach, so there are plenty of opportunities for visitors to enjoy windsurfing, boating, surfing, and sailing. Cycling is also a great way to see the country, especially some of the more out-of-the-way places, you will find it surprisingly affordable to transport your bike on the airplane, or you may consider buying or renting one once you arrive. In any event there are plenty of beautiful trails and country roads to explore.
