Istituto Venezia:
Methodology & Teaching Aids
Methodology
The
courses are taught using modern teaching methods that pay particular
attention to every-day usage, and yet do not ignore the linguistic
rigor necessary to acquire a thorough knowledge of Italian. A variety
of teaching and learning strategies are employed in class, including
individual, paired and group speaking-and-listening exercises, role-play,
video work, traditional written response, and reading. Many aspects
of Italian culture are included in language lessons themselves and
students can ask their teachers for any extra material they may
need to personalize their program further. At the beginning of the
course, students sit simple oral and written placement tests to
indicate to tutors a suitable level at which they can comfortably
begin learning. For this reason it is suggested that students arrive
at the Institute at 8.30am on the first day of class.
Teaching Aids
Students
who wish to practice or improve their Italian in their free time
can use the cassette tape library and the library containing simplified
texts for foreign students. It is also possible to see important
films in the history of Italian cinema.
