Siena - Italy
Transportation
Bus
The typical modes of transportation
in Siena are walking, bike, or bus. The bus service in Seina is
good. They go all over the city and a schedule is posted at every
stop. Monthly bus passes are available. While there is no car or
bus activity permitted inside the city, if you have a hotel outside
the city walls, this is the best mode of transportation.
Train
For most destinations, the option
would be train, though it is more expensive than the bus even though
they both normally take the same time to get to Florence. Siena
is not on a major train line, so from Rome it is necessary to change
at Chiusi, and from Florence at Empoli, making buses a better alternative.
Trains arrive at Piazza F Rosselli, north of the city center.
Car & Motorcycle
You can rent funny looking smart
cars to drive youself around Siena and the surrounding towns. Bikes,
scooters, mopeds and mountain bikes can be rented if you want to
do some exploring on your own. However riding mopeds within the
city can be tricky for a foreigner.
