Transportation
Florence Airport is only three miles north-west
of the city and is a short taxi ride to the city centre. The majority
of international flights arrive at Galileo Galilei, an hours drive
away in Pisa. Pisa terminal is served by both European and domestic
flights and has regular connections with London, Paris and Munich.
There is an hourly direct train service into Florence from the Pisa
airport. The train is by far the best method of transport, but should
you find the trains out of service, there is always a taxi or you
can take the bus into Pisa city centre for connections to Florence.
Traffic in the city center is very restricted
and you will have difficulty entering the city during business hours.
The only internal public transport system in Florence is its bus
network which is run by ATAF. Taxis and bus fares tend to be expensive.
Avis, Europcar and Hertz are some of the rental
agenices in Florence. There are two or three large car parks just
outside the historical centre where you can leave the car as most
of the tourist areas of the city are off limits to tourist traffic.
Florence is relatively compact and therefore easy to get around
on foot and is the best way to see the city. Moped and bicycle rental
is another option for those brave enough to encounter the fast moving,
crowded traffic. Via Guelfa, rents scooters, larger mopeds and bicycles.
