Orientation
Antigua
is located in the south central region of Guatemala close to the
capital Guatemala city. The most noticeable landmark in Antigua
are the three volcanoes. Volcan Fuego, Volcan Agua and Volcan Acatenango.
The volcano that really stands out is Volcan Agua. Situated to the
south of Antigua, Volcan Agua is easily seen from most points within
the city.
Within the city, streets are numbered and also
marked with old colonial names. As a point of reference the cathedral
is on the east side of the central park or main square. Surrounding
the plaza are some impressive Spanish colonial buildings. There
are also numerous shops, restaurants, banks and tour operators.
From the Parque Central. Almost everything of interest within Antigua
is just a short walking distance.
