Cultural events and activities organized by the greek language school in Athens, Greece

Events: AZ Athens

The Greek language school in Athens hosts cultural events and activities year-round at its Athens facilities, in the Soap Factory in the suburb of Paradissos, on the island of Spetses and other venues. Activities include guest lectures , exhibits and theatre performances.

Lecturers and guest speakers at the Greek language school have included the following:

  • R. Buckminster Fuller- Creator of the Geodesic Dome Inventor, poet.
  • Gregory Corso- American Poet.
  • Kimon Friar- translator of Nikos Kazantzakis.
  • Robert Liddle- scholar,author specializing on Cavafi.
  • James Merrill- American poet.
  • Philip Sherrard- Author.
  • Peter Macridge- Oxford University, Greek Scholar.

Theatre Performances
The Greek language school organizes a yearly summer Theatre Festival which includes productions of Classical Greek plays in English translation, with students and professional actors. The plays are performed in outdoor amphitheatres in Spetses, Athens and other locations.

Productions are planned with The Classic Theatre Company of the University of Detroit Mercy. The Theatre Company of the University of Florida in Gainesville and with the New World School of the Arts Theatre Company.
