Transportation
Freiburg's exceptionally efficient and comfortable
local public transportation system makes moving around town a pleasure.
The transport system is part of a regional network called Regio,
extending to all communities within a radius of approximately 30km.
The tickets can be purchased from vending machines or the drivers.
The tickets need to be validated upon boarding. Freiburg is a major
hub for buses connecting rural Black Forest communities and surrounding
areas.
Driving around is pretty simple. One can rent a
car from car-rental agencies like Europcar, pick up a map and use
the scenic autobahn routes around the city. Although some of the
routes can get clogged.
Freiburg can be reached at hourly intervals via
Intercity trains, Intercity Express trains or Eurocity trains. From
Hamburg or Bremen or Hanover there is a year round Motorail service.
During the summer months and holiday seasons like Easter and Christmas,
an additional Motorail connection connects Freiburg with Cologne
and Düsseldorf.
