Take a walk
Freiburg is one of the most beautiful cities in
Germany with even a Black Forest mountain within its city limits.
Experience the richness of the forests with some of the famous summits,
offering wonderful views of the Alps, Vosges, Jura, and the Alsace
plain. You will encounter superb lakes and isolated villages with
their traditionally constructed wooden houses.
The heart of the old city, with its narrow little
streams that flow from the Black Forest hills in almost every street,
is an extensive pedestrian zone. This makes sightseeing and walking
around in the city a more relaxing experience. As you stroll down
the town's walkways you can't help but admire the beautiful mosaics
embedded into the pavement outside of stores and shops. Each or
these mosaic tiles has an image that symbolizes the store's commerce,
like a diamond for a jewelry shop or a cow for a butcher, a pretzels,
flowers etc..
After walking around on a hot summer day you may
want to cool your feet off in a Bächle, the ever flowing water
canals that run parallel to many pathways in the Old Town. Originally
an elaborate delivery system for watering cattle are now welcome
relief for hot feet.
