Transportation
Germany has one of the best railway networks in
Europe that makes travel between German cities easy and efficient.
As you would expect, Frankfurt’s public transport network
is efficient and well integrated. It consists of the U-Bahn and
S-Bahn trains, and buses. Tickets may be purchased from vending
machines or ticket offices. Visitors could invest in the Frankfurt
Card, available for one or two days, which incorporates all travel
as well as reduced entry into some key attractions. Frankfurt has
two main tourist offices where you can get more information. One
in the Hauptbahnhof and another in the heart of the city at Romerberg.
Frankfurt is served by one of Europe's major airports,
Frankfurt Airport (FRA). It is one of the busiest airports in the
world and is a major entry point into Germany from abroad. There
are regular rail departures from the airport, which makes most of
Germany's cities easily accessible. Trains leave approximately once
every ten minutes for Frankfurt's Hauptbahnhof from where there
are even more comprehensive services covering other parts of Germany.
The airport is also linked to the Hauptbahnhof
by two S-Bahn lines, run by the regional transport company, which
is also responsible for bus, tram and U-Bahn services. From the
Hauptbahnhof you can take a tram, which goes right through the heart
of the historic city center, which would be a fifteen minutes walk.
There are excellent bus, train and tram services
as well as taxi and car hire services to get around the city. It
is possible to explore Frankfurt on foot but driving in the city
center is not as difficult in other major cities.
