City Overview
Frankfurt is a fascinating mixture
of dynamic financial metropolis and cozy village. Foreigners enjoy
the international atmosphere and the hospitality in the native town
of the most famous German writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Many
in Germany call the city 'Mainhattan'
due to its look and role in Germany. Today the city is the financial
capital of Germany, and is home to countless multi-national corporations.
In terms of transportation, the city is a vital hub. The international
airport is one of the busiest in the world. Most train and roadways
also converge on Frankfurt. Even if your final destination is not
Frankfurt, it is likely you will still pass through this city.
Much more than just a financial
center, Frankfurt is home to almost thirty museums, numerous theaters,
the William Forsythes Ballet, Ensemble, and countless other cultural
attractions. During the summertime, people meet at street fairs
and other open-air festivals.
A highlight is the riverside
festival which is organized each summer by the Frankfurt museums.
Especially young people like the techno and dance floor clubs, and
sports enthusiasts love the weekly skate events or the local soccer,
football, or basketball games. In Frankfurt, one enjoys life - at
the various events all over the city, in the countless open-air
restaurants, where the cider is served which is typical for this
part of Germany, or on a shopping spree of the main shopping boulevard,
the Zeil.
