Signtseeing in Berlin
The best way to see the whole of Berlin very quickly
is to spend an hour or so on a No 100 bus, which passes by all the
main sights including the Brandenburg Gate, Schloss Bellevue, Tiergarten,
the Reichstag, Berlin residence of Germany's president and the State
Opera. It is one of the quickest and most cost effective ways of
touring Berlin and one ticket allows you to get on and off as often
as you like within the two hours permitted. It’s a good idea
to pick up a map and information leaflet from the information kiosk
at the station. The bus also goes into East Berlin and offers some
opportunity to see what the east of the city was like under Communism,
before the collapse of the Berlin wall. With all the modernization,
it’ll soon be hard to tell where West meets East.
A few other sites you will be able to see are
Berliner Dom and Humboldt University, Alexanderplatz with its monster
TV tower and Europe's largest Jewish cemetery. If you stay on the
bus, the one way journey can take about 45 minutes depending on
the traffic. These buses are frequent and punctual and you will
never have to wait more than a few minutes for one.
