Transportation
Paris has an integrated public
transport system which makes it relatively easy to get around.
The system is cheap, fast and reliable comprising buses, underground
metro and suburban express trains.
Air
Aéroport Roissy Charles
de Gaulle,is the cities main airport. It is 12 miles north of
the city center and serves both domestic and international flights.
Paris Orly International Airport is the city’s second airport
and is about 10 miles away from central Paris. It also provides
both domestic and international flights.
Train
There is a regular service running from the airport
to the city. Platforms are easily accessible from airport terminal
buildings. There are 16 main metro lines and a high-speed express
subway system servicing the suburbs. There is always a metro station
within 500m of wherever you are and want to go in Paris. RER(Réseau
Express Regional) is the fast suburban commuter system which has
four lines running across Paris and into the suburbs.
Buses
Paris has an efficient bus system. Free bus route
maps and schedules are available at train stations, bus terminals
and tourist offices. There are special Balabus services for tourists
that pass all the major tourist sights between La Defense Grande
Arche and Gare de Lyon.
Taxis
Taxis can be hailed from all major junctions
of city. There can be different charges applied depending on the
time of the day, number of passengers and amount of luggage with
a pick up charge if you call for a cab. When you get into the
taxi, check that the meter shows the appropriate fare rate.
