Paris is located in north central
France and is largest and capital city of France. The city has an
area of about 40 square miles and is divided into 20 units called
arrondissements. The numbering of the arrondissements fans outward
with the first arrondissement starting from the western part and
ending with the twentieth arrondissement in eastern Paris. Apart
from arrondissements Paris is divided into 8 departments separated
into the inner an outer suburbs. The River Seine splits through
Paris entering from the southeast and exiting the city at the southwest
corner. Most of the historic and cultural monuments of Paris are
found on the banks of the river Seine, including the Arc de triomphe
, Eiffel tower and the museum Louvre.
