Transportation in Montpellier
Air
Montpellier’s airport is about 5 miles from the city. There
are approximately 14 daily connections with Paris, but also direct
flights to some European cities and most French cities. A shuttle
bus connects the airport to the railway station and also the center
of Montpellier. Taxis are also easily available.
Car
The motorway network allows
easy access from the main cities of Europe. You can rent a car
from offices in Montpellier-Méditérrannée
Airport and in or near the railway station. Driving within the
city of Montpellier can be tough. Pedestrians, one-way streets
and parking can be a problem. Driving in the historic center of
the city is not allowed and roads are generally crowded and the
roadmap of Montpellier is not very easy to follow!
Bus
Eurolines
has buses to many European destinations including Barcelona and
London. There are also services to Amsterdam, Prague, Lisbon and
Morocco. For transport within the city a bus and tramway system
operates within Montpellier city and to some outlying areas like
beaches. Regular buses operate daily until about 8:30pm.
Train
Montpellier is
on the main line Paris - Lyon - Perpignan - Barcelona and is connected
to all major cities for travel in France and Europe by the TGV High
speed train. The travel time between Paris and Montpellier is approximately
4 hours. There are direct trains from Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Other daily or overnight trains serve Brussels, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam,
Munich, Frankfurt, Geneva, Vienna, etc.
