Introduction to Montpellier
Montpellier is a historic city
with a tradition of being a university town since the founding of
the University of Montpellier in 1289. It has a huge student population
and is a perfect place for entertainment with fine restaurants,
bars, movie theaters, opera and nightclubs. The climate is excellent;
summer lasts until the end of October and you can even sit outside
in winter to sip a glass of wine in one of the numerous cafés.
Montpellier offers a wide range of excursion opportunities. The
interior landscape is beautiful, with many gorges, creeks and picturesque
villages. Montpellier opens up to the Mediterranean with its long,
sandy beaches and the lagoons with huge colonies of wild pink flamingos.
This is also the biggest wine growing area of the world and host
to the international wine festival.
