Transportation Around Aix
The French school is located right in the city
center of Aix en Provence. All sites of interest are within walking
distance of the school. Aixis best explored on foot. You can a jaunt
downtown and enjoy the sites of statues, fountains, stunning buildings
with amazing architechure. Allong the way you will take in the scents
of fresh coffee, baked bread, farm picked, fruits and vegetables,
as well as the local flower vendors with many local varieties. A
walk through Aix is not complete without stopping for a rest and
drink at the various cafes or taverns. Many French students enjoy
biking around Aix-en-Provence. There a few bike shos where you can
pick up a rental for the lenght of your French program. You can
also find mountain bikes so that you can explore the country side
of Provence.
Aix has a great highway system coming in out of
the city so that you may also explore other parts of France by car.
Visitors that come to study French can rent cars or scooters at
local rental sites but are a bit pricey. A valid U.S. driver's license
is required for U.S. citizens who want to drive in France. The local
and regional buses are a much more affordable option and are quite
convienient to get around the surrounding cities and other parts
of France. Trains are suggested for larger treks within France due
to the comfort factor. The Taxi's in Aix are easy to come by and
can be hailed if you need to get somewhere quick within the city.
France is well known for its advanced rail lines
and its high-speed trains. Aix has a small station on Ave Victor
Hugo. tiny train station is at the southern end There are several
scheduled trips each day to and from Gap and Marseille. Marseille
provides the closest airport in the area. You can reach the city
center by shuttles or taxis from the airport in about a half hour.
You can also fly into many major cities like Nice or Paris and make
rail or bus connections to Aix en Provence.
