Aix en Provence is know for its great musuems
and some are considered to be the best and most uniqe in all
of France. Below are a few of the museums that are a must see
on your study abroad trip in France. You should have no problem
visiting all of these museums after French classes or one weekends
when you are not studying.
Studio of Cezanne
Paul Cezanne was a famous artist from Aix-en-province who is
best known for leading the cubist movement. Cezanne's last art
studio has been converted in to this museum. The studio exhibits
personal belongings, tools, period furniture and some of his
unfinished work. The museum also hosts a viewing room with slides
of some of his most famous works.
Museum of Tapestry
This museaum in Aix en Provence is on the 1st floor of the palace
of the old Archbishop. The exhibits include tapestries from
the 1600-1800's, as well as works of art from the modern era
and period peice furniture used by the Archbishop.
