Simon Bolivar:
Volunteer Programs

Please visit Nuevos Horizontes for information about volunteer work during your stay at the Simon Bolivar Spanish school.

Our organization, which is part of the Academia Superior de Espanol, Simon Bolivar, offers volunteer positions in and around Quito.

Volunteer work

Ecuador offers a range of different possibilities for volunteer work. This could be teaching English in a poor neighborhood, working with street/working children, working in a orphanage, planting trees in the cloud-or rain forest, helping indigenous groups to organize their own tourism projects, working in kindergartens, helping out in the marketing of local handicrafts, or agriculture work to help poor peasants in the countryside.

We work with some of the biggest NGO organizations in Ecuador and can now offer work in many different fields.

Type of work

We can offer short or long term volunteer positions for young people from all around the world. We prefer that the volunteer is a university student, or has finished a university degree, and/or has some years of related working experience. We can offer work in the following areas:

  • Teaching
  • Social work
  • Children
  • Agriculture
  • Marketing
  • Tourism
  • Development
  • Reforestation

We work with many different NGO organizations that need volunteers for a period of 2 to 12 months (or even longer). The volunteer must either speak fluent Spanish or take Spanish lessons here in Quito before joining a program.

Accommodation

We'll provide you with a family for homestay close to the place where you will work. The families are carefully selected. If for some reason you need to change families we'll help you with the relocation.

Cost

We charge a registration fee to provide you with information about a specific job before you arrive. In addition we charge a monthly fee for the first 6 months to cover administration cost. This includes one full time staff member who is there to help you 24 hours a day with any problems you may have. It also includes help in selecting a workplace, selecting a family, introduction to the family/workplace, problem solving, follow up visits to work/family, and the use of office space in Quito. In addition, we give you a short conference on cultural aspects of living/ working in Ecuador, and practical useful information on how to get around. We also provide you with written information prior to your arrival.

Homestays

We offer families for homestays. The homestays include 3 meals and your own private room. The families charge a monthly fee depending on location and standards.

Hostel and Apartments

We can arrange long term stays at hostels at very low costs, in shared or single room. There are also apartments with private/shared room and access to kitchen etc.
