Facilities: ILISA
The
Facilities Are Second to None...
In
addition to their excellent location, ILISA's facilities themselves
are unmatched by any language school in the region. Unlike most
schools, nearly all of the classrooms are purpose-built, providing
optimum conditions for a language school. The classrooms have an
abundance of natural light, are well-ventilated and comfortably
furnished. An ample garden and terrace, both with great views, create
surroundings where you can relax both during classes and after,
to chat with other students, read the newspaper or do homework.
Since many schools operate from converted homes, you can't always
take such amenities for granted.
In November of 1998, ILISA opened
its new school building, which was built with you, the student,
in mind. And in May of 2000, ILISA opened their new annex.
The
main building features spacious, comfortable classrooms with amplenatural
light and ventilation, a computer lab, new offices, and a small
restaurant.
The entrance level contains the
reception desk, administrative offices, a teacher's planning area
and a large lobby with a skylight.

The second floor houses classrooms,
a computer lab with three computers and a meeting room for teachers.
Computers are equipped for writing e-mail, for general use, and
for building Spanish skills using multimedia CD-ROM Spanish programs.
They are particularly convenient for students who need to keep up
with the business while they're studying.

The
top floor houses two additional classrooms and the director's office.Although
Thorwald won't deny he'll enjoy two beautiful views toward both
the north and the south, the main reason his office is on the top
floor is because there was no space downstairs and he needs exercise
of going up and down the stairs a few dozen times a day. Students
studying on the top level also enjoy the views and can work off
their calories they consume during coffee hour as they climb back
up the stairs for the second half of class. ILISA has put excellent
insulation in the roof to keep these classrooms cool and comfortable.

Finally,
on the lowest level, you will find the entrance to the existing
terrace. It's accessible both from inside the building as well as
from the street. It features a small restaurant for our students.
With over a 100 square meters (1,000 sq. ft.) of terrace there is
ample space for gatherings before, between and after classes. The
terrace has become the heart of ILISA's social and cultural life.
After all, you can't beat studying or chatting with other students
when you have a beautiful mountain view and a freshly brewed cup
of Costa Rican Java.

In addition to ILISA's main building,
ILISA has two additional classroom buildings housing a total of
14 classrooms. Both buildings are less than 5 years old and, like
those in our main building, are light, spacious and airy. Students
also enjoy ILISA's 5 all-weather outdoor classrooms located in our
beautiful gardens.
In May 2000, ILISA opened the first
phase of our new annex. It includes two large classrooms, three
smaller classrooms, a conference room and a new computer lab.
As
is true of all the facilities, classrooms feature lots of natural
light. The conference room can comfortably accommodate up to 25
people with semicircular seating or 50 with auditorium-style seating.
Facilities will be used for ILISA's cultural activities program,
teacher-training workshops and for special group programs which
ILISA hosts throughout the year. In addition, we will make facilities
available for use by other organizations.
The expanded computer lab offers
students convenient, all-day access to 14 computers with Internet
and e-mail access. In addition, students can use multimedia Spanish
language training software during their free time. These facilities
are accessible by means of a short pedestrian bridge connecting
them to our central terrace.
The project's second stage includes
a business center, additional office space, a student study area
and additional classrooms. The second stage was completed in May
2002.
The combination of a comfortable
study environment and a convenient location offers you the ideal
circumstances for serious yet enjoyable language study.
